Quirky designer Mandy Coon is already catching the eye ofHollywood’s finest with fans like Zooey Deschanel. Starting out as CamillaStærk’s assistant, Mandy launched her first collection in Spring/Summer 2010,evoking a dark yet whimsical mood, coerced by her boss. She says of her firstshow, “It was actually Camilla Stærk, who I was working for, who got up mynerve. One day she said, ‘You’re going to do it. You’re going to have apresentation. You’re going to have a real collection.’ She handed me a stickynote and said, “Here’s the number for the lady who does the fashion weekcalendar. You’re going to call her. Leather and Fur

I'm obsessed with my faux fur scarf I found at a thrift store in the Valley. I've never been fond of cold weather (read: anything under 70 degrees) wearing this warm, cozy wrap makes it so much easier. This outfit started off with the basics, cropped cargos, and Elizabeth and James button down, and a leather jacket. I finished off with my favorite shoes of the moment, my Steve Madden Kennyyas in blue, and carried a structured bag.

DSquared2’s SS12 fashion show was all about grungy, brightfestival attire (think Coachella) that’s fun, easy to wear, and exudes warm,sexy, summer nights. The show, down to every detail, was a boho chick’s dreamfeaturing cutoff denim vests, flowy maxi-dresses, fur accents, and brightsunglasses with models even carrying beer bottles down the runway. Now they’vereleases the spread for the campaign and the vibe remains the same. The spread,shot by Mert Atlas and Marcus Piggott, includes model, Natasha Poly, surroundedby dreamy male models, Dimitri Tanner, Paolo Anchisi, Matt Woodhouse and Ton Heukels, all dressed in grunge-chic attirewith a setup that easily resembles a festival campsite complete with sleepingbags, crushed beer cans, and an old school boom box. Personally, I’m lustingover Natasha’s fringe-tastic leather biker jacket and the distressed denimpaired with neon shades.

Beer Float by pastry chef, Santanna Salas from Haven Gastropub and Brewery, Pasadena, CA

Dessert is a simple pleasure anyone, from babies to grannies, can enjoy. Granted, babies ~~probably~~ shouldn't indulge in this sweet, boozy delight, but this beer float exceeded my expectations for both a dessert and an after-dinner drink.

Jordan and I were invited to a special pre-opening night at Haven Gastropub and Brewery in Pasadena and we sampled their delicious, so-much-more-than-bar food and unique collection of beers. I had the lamb burger with onion jam and Jordan had a flank steak, cooked perfectly, with rosemary season fries. The dinner was fantastic but the dessert was the star of the evening. Served with warm chocolate chip cookies, this pint of strawberry ale is topped with a scoop of fresh made vanilla ice cream creating an indulgent, frothy layer. You can also see a my peanut butter and jelly dessert in the background, a nostalgic spread of flavors with a scoop of fresh blackberry sorbet, a chunk of peanut brittle, and a thin sourdough crisp. The setting was trendy and casual and the decor was reminiscent of 16th century England, including huge iron chandeliers and heavy wooden tables.

Coffee Break

Jordan and I had the perfect lazy Sunday. We woke up and walked to Starbucks and stopped at the grocery store to pick up some breakfast food. Together, we cooked a spread of extra-crispy bacon, fried eggs, balsamic tomatoes, fruit salad, and whole wheat toast. We took our time eating and reading magazines and then went back to bed again for a while. Finally, I dragged him out from under the covers like an eager child because today was the day we set aside to shop for my new snowboard-- his Christmas gift to me! We came out empty handed after hitting up 3 sporting goods stores because there just didn't seem to be much of a selection for smaller boards my size so we've turned to online shopping, where we found a couple of prospects we are researching further.

My lazy Sunday outfit is really just jeans and a tee. I added a stack of bracelets and the whole scarf-as-a-belt deal for some color, along with my comfy moccasins which are great boots for both summer and a SoCal winter.

Oh and P.S., as I'm writing this, I can hear the rain falling outside my window so naturally all I'm thinking about is wearing my Burberry rain boots which are entirely underused here in California.

I mentioned a while back, here, that I'd be shooting an editorial for Beane & Company's new collection and this past weekend-- after weather delays-- it finally happened! It was one of the smoothest and quickest shoots I've worked on and, with the vintage styling and gorgeous designs, I know it's going to turn out fabulously. Not only did the designer, Jenna Lang, hand make all the sample gowns AND headpieces, but, as you will notice from the photos, this superwoman also has an adorable baby boy strapped to her every step of the way. This collection consists of bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and the most adorable children's clothing you've ever seen.

Holiday Cruise

During the Thanksgiving holiday, we went on a breathtaking cruise that took us to The Bahamas, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico. The sights I saw and the fun we experienced were truly priceless. It was a family reunion of sorts, and it was incredible being able to spend time with my cousins, aunts, and uncles. What I really cherished most, however, was the time I got to spend with my parents and my brother who I miss entirely too much, living 3,000 miles away from them. We had breakfast together almost every day and safety and comfort I felt just being around my mom and dad are feelings I'll value and remember forever.

We took a couple outfit pictures, but, to be honest, our time was so limited and there were so many activities and excursions, fashion (for once) was not at the center of my thoughts so we sort of abandoned the outfit shoots after day 2. Nevertheless, here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip. Throughout the entire week, I could not shake the thought of how vast and powerful the ocean is. Every night, I'd look out into the dark sea and imagine how awful and terrifying it would be to be lost out there, with the waves battering and bashing you and mist spraying in your face every 30 seconds, making it difficult to catch your breath, even if you were on a raft. But, on the cruise, we were as comfortable as if we were at the Four Seasons and it really put things in perspective for me.

We climbed Dunn Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We drank straight out of coconuts while laying on the beaches of Grand Cayman Island. We explored the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, Mexico. This vacation fulfilled both my need for adventure and learning and it's surely to be remembered for the rest of my life.

I wanna go Fast

I've never understood the excitement of watching car races-- the only moment of interest to me was the last 30 seconds. But being at a racetrack in person, watching these vintage Alfa Romeos scream past the stands at speeds exceeding 120mph, has completely changed my perspective. The atmosphere at the track was unlike any other sporting event I've attended. The parking lots were scattered with drivers camped in their trailers for the weekend. Burgers were being grilled, beers being were consumed (by the spectators only, of course) and cars were being tinkered with. We walked around the grounds and admired some of the cars on display.

It was windy up in Rosamond and it was COLD! I bundled up in my purple pea coat, an American Apparel scarf, and a fedora from OBEY. I thought I was so clever carrying my checkered bag to the raceway, walking the line between cute and costume-y.

We ended the day at a nearby Mexican restaurant for tacos and margaritas to celebrate our friend placing first in the race. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Wait for Green Photo Shoot

Last week I got to work with some close friends of mine styling a shoot for their band, Wait For Green. We had 3 different setups so we put together 3 different looks, with each of the guy having an individual, yet coherent, look. For the first location, we hauled a ratty couch to the beach and shot them lounging in some stylish jeans and cords dressed up with faux leather jackets and cool accessories. We moved on to some street shots and I dressed them in something a bit more relaxed. We used some flannels, tees, and sweaters to play into the guys' surfer-casual style which really reflects their reggae-influenced music. As the sun started to set, we had the guys set up a grill in their backyard and shot some vibrant beachwear including neon sunglasses and board shorts.

The boys looked great and I can't wait to see some finished photos. If you want to check out their music, here are a couple new songs off their new album: Slow Riding and Elevate.

Beane and Co. 2012 Collection Sneak Peek

Last weekend I got to play dress-up with some of the most beautiful handmade bridesmaid and bridal gowns designed and created by Jenna Lang of Beane and Co. This Sunday, I'll be modeling a few items from the collection for a photo shoot but here is just a sneak preview of a couple pieces I'll be wearing for the shoot. The white wedding gown exudes elegance and magic and, with the faux fur shrug, it's the perfect Cinderella dress for a winter wedding. The adorable vintage-inspired skirt with the charming bustle is exactly what I'd have worn to go out on the sundeck for a brunch cocktail on the Titanic. These delicate pieces are only 2 of Jenna's gorgeous creations and I can't wait to show you more next week.

Zombie Lovers

For most of us, Friday and Saturday were filled with costume parties, candy, and cocktails. As the actual Halloween crept up on Monday, I found myself digging through my closet attempting to put together something festive to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters (which I actually do enjoy). I had the day off and a little extra time on my hands to experiment with make up so I attempted the Mexican sugar skull from the Dia de los Muertos celebration. It turned out better than I expected so zombie Jordan let me do his make up too. He wouldn't stop wiggling and moving but I was satisfied with the finished product.

I had a business meeting on Tuesday morning so I put together this outfit using a lovely and extremely versatile pleated skirt I picked up from Nordstrom. It was light and twirly and was the perfect business-casual piece for a hot LA day. These criss-crossed Marc Jacobs shoes finished the look and, together with the skirt, had me feeling like a ballerina on the inside.

Lately, I've been exploring a lot with mixed prints. Here, I kept the color scheme the same through out (black and white) but I mixed checks with floral and even some stripes on these Marc by Marc Jacobs sunnies. I picked up this dress last week at Forever XXI and, to enrich the outfit, paired it with Marc Jacobs simple pumps and the Marc sunglasses as well. The bag is an old friend from Metro Park I used to carry religiously in the summer of '08. I forgot all about it, but recently found it shoved inside another bag on a shelf up high in my closet so I brought it out for old time's sake. My favorite part of this outfit is the vintage bracelet I bought in Studio City a couple weeks ago. It's a completely blinged out elephant head and I want to wear it everywhere.

Jack-o-lantern Alternatives

The process is actually quite dangerous without the right tools and I always seem to come up with the most generic face (triangle eyes and nose and some sort of snag-toothed mouth) despite my creative attempts. Red Carpet Glam

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of dressing my client and long-time friend, Courtney. She's an actress out here in LA (currently plays Quinn on Pretty Little Liars) and was invited to attend a red carpet Emmy viewing party. We decided to go for an old-Hollywood, vintage look so I pulled together a few items for her to try on, sticking with nude/beige/cream colors. We ultimately decided upon this gorgeous Ines Di Santo dress, covered in pearls and weighing about 12 pounds.

The decision was tough; we didn't decide this was the one until a few hours before the show. You can see our other favorites below.

Diamonds and Pearls

Our last evening in New York, Jordan took me to Blue Ribbon sushi. We'd heard amazing things about the fried chicken but I had no idea the dish would be life-changing. I can never eat any other fried chicken again after experiencing that. I wore some loose clothing in anticipation and I'm so glad I did. What an amazing end to an amazing trip. Can't life just be like this forever?

Central Park

Yesterday was a warm, sunny day in New York City and we took advantage of our last full day in the city by exploring Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History. I wore this dress from Mimi Chica which I got practically for free at Nordstrom Rack. I also got to debut my new Alexander Wang stingray wristlet which I bought the day before at a consignment store for a quarter of the original $795 price tag. You can even see me lusting over it here on one of my weekend wishlists. I finished off the look with some sturdy booties from Elizabeth and James and threw my hair in a bun, not willing to deal with the frizz from the humidity. I'm sad to be leaving New York today but ready to get back to LA and back to reality.

On a side note though, Missoni for Target launches today so go out and show your support-- or don't because I need the collection to not be sold out by the time I get back to California.

Spending the 10th anniversary of September 11th in New York City was a very emotional, very surreal experience. I felt a closeness to the victims and heroes that I've never felt before and the sense of sadness was one I could not shake. Though it's probably the biggest understatement, we, as a country, will forever be indebted to the officers, fire fighters, Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy, EMT's, volunteers, and so many more heroes that saved so many lives on that day 10 years ago and have fought for our freedom ever since. And especially to my cousin and one of my best friends, Joao Pereira, thank you.

Project Runway Finale and Inside the Tent at New York Fashion Week

Yesterday I had the privilege of being invited to watch the Project Runway finale at the Lincoln Center for NYC's Fashion Week. As soon as I arrived at the center, my eyes widened with excitement and the smile on my face couldn't have been any cheesier. My lovely date, Charles, and I got our hair done at the Tresemme booth before the show and we collected a bunch of swag including make up, hair products, magazines, perfumes, and of course lots of snacks and drinks (I even saw one of the models eating frozen yogurt. It does happen, people). I got to meet a few other bloggers, as well as several other incredible people which made the experience even more spectacular.

The show, of course, was the highlight of the day. I didn't want it to end. Watching each designer fulfill their dreams of showing a collection at Fashion Week was amazing. We got to watch from the 3rd row and I even got the inside scoop on who the finalists are-- I won't reveal though! My favorite collection by far was Anya Ayoung-Chee's, inspired by her native island, Trinidad. The collection consisted of flowy dresses, silky fabrics, and sexy cuts with lots of plunging necklines and backless pieces. Of course, I loved pieces from every collection and each designer had a very inspiring and touching story to tell through their designs.

Fashion's Night Out NYC 2011

Fashion's Night Out in New York City was such an amazing way too kick off this fabulous week of fashion and glam. The streets of Soho were packed, portions of Broadway were closed, and stores stayed open late (some until 11pm) entertaining shoppers with drinks, snacks, and tunes spun by some of the hippest DJs from across the country. I even saw some karaoke going on in Kate Spade. We hit up several stores and I tried on some incredible pieces from places like Mango, Guess, Steve Madden, Helmut Lang, Free People, TopShop and a few others. I was super bummed to have missed out on 3.1 Phillip Lim-- they closed before 9pm-- but I'll be sure to map out better plans for next year now that I know what to expect. I'll also be better prepared next time by bringing flats in my purse (such a rookie mistake) for the subway. Did any of you guys experience FNO in your city? What were some of the fashionable highlights from your part of world?

Fashion Illstrations and Getting Pumped for FNO

Lately I've been so inspired by amazing and talented fashion illustrators such as Caroline Andrieu, based in Paris, who is the artist of the illustration above. As much as I love browsing online stores and drooling over runway photos and editorial spreads, these drawings and paintings inspire me in a completely different way. These artists are so gifted with the ability to accurately and artfully depict images on paper, creating these masterpieces with their own two hands. They also have impeccable taste in high fashion and the creativity to create these looks using nothing but their artistry. These designers are able to reach into the furthest depths of their imagination and give birth to clothes that normally wouldn't be conventional or wearable in life, but are nothing short of enchanting and appear exquisite on paper.

Today marks a very exciting and important day: I'm going to New York for my very first Fashion Week! I can't describe to you the feelings of nervousness, excitement, and curiosity I've been experiencing the past couple of days in anticipation. I have an idea of what to expect but I'm sure being submersed in the affair and surrounded by fashion junkies and label whores (like myself) will be an experience I cannot predict.

For those of you who aren't going to be in the city for NYFW, but still think you might die if you don't receive up-to-the-minute updates on designers' new collections, this post is for you (we don't want you to die over this). Just as I was talking about developing my sneaker collection, I discover this glamorous piece of trivia. Miu Miu is launching a sneaker collection consisting of Converse-style lace-ups dazzling with glitter, studs, and stones late this month. With a price tag of $450 to $585, they are a bit on the pricey side but, if you can spare the change, these works of art are sure to be a fashion collectors dream sneaker. What do you guys think? Is $500 too ridiculous for sneakers?

I love the idea of being like those sneaker fiends with a shoe closet resembling a Nike warehouse. You know the type, the ones who buy 2 pairs of the exact same shoe-- one to wear and one to keep in the box in mint condition. Well my sneaker collection is just beginning and these orange and red Air Force 1's were one of the first pairs I bought. I guess I was really vibing the 80's break dancer with this outfit. Must be the sunglasses.

Over the weekend, we had delicious burgers and Parmesan fries at The Counter. It was my first day off in what seemed like forever. I wore a sheer button-down blouse by Lush and amazingly comfortable black super-skinny jeans, courtesy of Dina at Mek Denim. Jordan and I spent a relaxing couple of days together before he left this morning to Chicago for a job. I, on the other hand, am just beginning a 10-day break and getting ready to pack for a mini-vacation to Miami. I'm so thankful to have a little time off but even more excited to come back to work and prep for the MTV VMA's!

I found the perfect little dress for the 100+ degree weather in the San Fernando Valley; it comes with it's own built-in air circulation system. I love the cut out detail, giving the dress the practicality of staying cool but also providing just a little bit of sexiness by showing just the right amount of skin. I want it in every color.

I really don't spend enough time in Downtown LA. Today I had to meet with 2 separate designers and had about 2 hours to kill between meetings so Jordan and I explored the fashion district and had lunch at the Fisherman's Outlet (or, as Jordan calls it, the fish house). I had some amazing chargrilled Pacific Snapper. I spent the super hot afternoon running around in this ForeverXXI halter dress and sandals from BC Footwear. I love the delicate white polka dots on the dress and the buttons add a cute detail. Of course, I also wore some of my staples: Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Michael Kors gold watch, and Hermes bangle.

Valley Heat

It's been SO hot in the San Fernando Valley lately that the only possible way to be outside more than 5 minutes is to be in a swimming pool. Yesterday we took these pictures and immediately went swimming afterward. I'm wearing a new dress I got at Macy's from American Rag coupled with a long strand of pearls (a gift from my fabulous mother when I got accepted to college) twisted around my wrist. Short dresses are my go-to for hot weather. I finished off the look with Ray-Ban aviators and some very old tie-up sandals from Urban Outfitters. What is everyone else doing to keep cool this summer?

Happy 4th of July to all my readers in the U.S.A! Today, I'm wearing a blue sequin striped shirt-dress from H&M over a festive white and red bikini. I have on my Gianni Bini red tie-up wedges, my favorite trucker hat, and my mom's vintage red box clutch. I even did a bit of holiday make-up. I made these cake truffles out of a fun-fetti cake which I rolled in white chocolate and sprinkled with red and blue sugar. We have plans to drink mimosas with brunch and then perhaps head to the beach for some sun. Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday!

Kings Canyon

I've just spent the past 3 days in complete disconnect from the digital world-- including no cell phone, no internet service, and no TV. I never thought I'd be able to do it but it has been such a refreshing experience that gave me a chance to connect with the natural world and spend uninterrupted time with my love, Jordan. We've been up in the mountains of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park exploring and spending time with one another. We stayed in a cabin with a beautiful view up near the top of Kings Canyon. I'd like to say the cabin was quaint but, to be totally honest, we slept in fear. Our cabin had a bathroom with a shower so we were not really camping, but it was by no means a comfortable accommodation. Maybe I'm just too much of a city girl but between the noises at night and the unusual locals we spoke to, I wasn't exactly feeling the safest. Maybe I've seen one too many Rob Zombie movies but I'm just happy to be back in civilization. We are in Santa Barbara now for a few days of pampering and relaxing before heading back to LA. Don't get me wrong, the trip to Sequoia, despite my (possibly irrational) fears, was gorgeous and wonderful and I would definitely go back-- just wouldn't stay in the random cabin hundreds of miles from civilization where no one would be able to hear me if I screamed. We took hundreds of photos and here are only a few from day 1 of the trip. After I sort through some more photos, I'll show you day 2 which included visiting the Sherman Tree, the biggest tree in the world!

If You're Going to San Francisco

Jordan and I came up to San Francisco yesterday evening so we spent the whole day seeing the city, eating great food, and recovering from last night's antics. We spent the morning on the west side of the city and crossed the bridge to Sausalito for lunch and a bit of shopping around noon. The weather was much warmer across the bridge, warm enough even for ice cream cones. Once we headed back to the city for an amazingly delicious sushi dinner at Sushi Bistro, the weather started to cool and I put on my leather jacket. I'm very quickly falling in love with the charming city.

As you may have already heard, it was recently announced that this November, H&M will be debuting a line designed by Donatella Versace which will recreate some of the most iconic Versace looks. Donatella promises it will be very glamorous and rock and roll involving lots of gold and leather and elaborate prints. The line will debut November 17th, with prices starting at around $75, and will include 40 pieces for women, 20 for men, and accessories and home decor. Who else is giddy with excitement? Yesterday I worked a photo shoot for an up-and-coming clothing label's Fall lookbook. It's always important to dress comfortably when there is lots of running around to be done. LA tends to be cold in the morning and warm up later in the afternoon so layering is key. Here I am wearing H&M dark skinny jeans and a Miss Sixty tank top. I wore this Anthropologie blazer in the morning before the temp crept up into the 80's. The shoes are lime green Tori Burch flats and the headband I picked up at Urban Outfitters like 6 years ago.

Recently, I can't help but notice all the magazine spreads featuring female models styled in menswear. I'm super inspired by the androgynous fashion we've been seeing in recent months and it's especially appropriate now that Father's Day is practically here. This week alone we've seen Agyness Deyn for Elle (photographed by the talented, charming, and handsome James Franco) and Beyonce for L'Uomo Vogue pose as men for each of the magazines' July issue. Even back in September last year, we saw this trend surfacing with Lady Gaga's spread in Vogue Japan. There is something inexplicably sexy about the mystery of a woman and it's even more intriguing when you take away the pink ruffles and lace and focus on the strength and masculinity each woman has within. Isn't it impressive and sexy when a woman works on her own car, builds a piece of furniture, or does her own handy work around the house? It's these (what society considers) "masculine" qualities that sometimes make a woman outshine her most beautiful and feminine friends.

Jordan and I both had Tuesday off so we took a trip down to Hermosa Beach and did a little shopping before stopping at a Brazilian beach side barbecue restaurant for lunch. I wore this beautiful maxi dress but in hindsight, I wish I'd brought a jacket because the overcast skies were not yielding the warmest beach weather. Regardless, it was still a fun afternoon with my best friend and a the outfit itself was lovely. I wore my favorite Oakley Frogskin sunnies which I don't wear often because there is a scratch on the right lens that obstructs my vision a bit. Does anyone know of a place that will repair or replace the lens (I called Oakley and unfortunately they do not offer this customer service)? I carried my smallest shoulder bag from Junior Drake and finished with tie-up Jesus sandals and a big stack of bangles.

Monday afternoon we actually took some time to just listen to music and lay in the grass in the backyard. Those of you based in LA know that June Gloom has been among us, but the sun actually peeked through in the late afternoon for a couple of hours. I spent the morning and earlier part of the afternoon running errands and did a little bit of shopping (CVS, grocery store, Sally's Beauty Supply-- not the fun kind of shopping) and this was the outfit that got me through the day. I'm wearing my H&M dark skinny jeans, a top from Bar III, and Steve Madden clogs. I accessorized with the usual watch/bracelet combo but also added some fun with these asymmetrical earrings I bought at a boutique in Brazil.

Seafood Lunch

We had a lovely lunch at King's Seafood in Calabasas on Sunday. There was a huge koi pond out front and we saw it as the perfect opportunity to take pictures. I'm wearing another Anat B. dress that I LOVE. It's the perfect short length and the material is different from the expected white lace or fishnet we see a lot of in the summer. The scooped back gives it a bit of excitement from behind (hehe) and it paired beautifully with my Elizabeth & James brown ankle boots. This weekend's wishlist was completely inspired by my envy over my girl friend and sister-in-fashion, Elise's, new pair of Miu Miu polka-dot platform sandals from the brand's 2011 Resort collection. I want them. And I'm going to pretend they are mine. And this is the outfit I would wear with my new Miu Miu sandals.

I love this romper from Shakuhachi, one of Australia's most recognized labels (despite the Japanese name). The batwing sleeves give it a look unique from most other rompers and the delicate watercolor floral print is a perfect contrast to the polka-dotted sandals. Don't be afraid to mix prints! Some of the most beautifully unexpected outfits are created using this technique. The on sale (but still out of my budget) McQueen bag is the perfect shade to use over and over again and the perfect size to carry all your necessities. I finished the look with this hairpiece, which is simple yet eye-catching, and the chunky ring by Rachel Roy.

This dress was purchased in 1984 by my mother in Atlanta, GA. Last month she was getting rid of some old clothes and let me look through the pile and take what I wanted so I had to scoop this up and add it to my vintage collection. The clean white provides a perfect canvas to accessorize to whatever mood you're feeling and the shoulder pads and structured collar make it so unmistakeably 80's. I cinched the waist with a belt borrowed from my roommate, Emily, and finished the look with one of my favorite pairs of triple-strap heels (scuffed up like you wouldn't believe) from Baker's.

This is my first time posting about my red trucker hat but it's probably the piece in my wardrobe I've worn the most over my lifetime. I've had it since I was 14 and it's lived through 6 Warped Tours, 2 summers at camp, and has managed to escape countless Goodwill donations. I don't even remember where I got it anymore and the label was ripped off years ago, but it just seems to have become the perfect accessory to so many outfits. Here I wore it with a basic flannel from ForeverXXI and shorts from Zara. I kept the flannel buttoned up to the top for a different, more structured look. The shoes are my red Gianni Bini ankle-tie wedges which always add the perfect splash of color to simple outfits such as this.

Brown-Eyed Girl

I'm all about color most of the time, but sometimes it's nice to just remain neutral. We took these pictures just before sunset yesterday and the brown outfit really gives the whole set up a very Native American feel. This is one of my favorite dresses for fat days (it's not just me, right?) because it's fitted in the bust and sleeves but loose everywhere else. These school girl style shoes from BCBGirls helps this outfit maintain its innocence. I also uped the Pocahontas effect with the braided headband and my newly acquired purple feather hair extension (I'm a little late to the party on that one, I know). I pulled out some of my gold accessories, like my Michael Kors watch and chain necklace I "borrowed" from my mom, and finished with a bright orangey-red lipstain. Weekend Wishlist: It's My Business

Next week, I'll be leaving my current job to pursue new work. Although I have no job interviews currently scheduled, it's important to have a professional outfit in your wardrobe in case something were to come up last minute. This is my outfit wishlist for this weekend; a sleek, clean look with a tailored dress and minimal accessories. This ASOS dress is inspired by the classic business dress but its pastel color and scalloped edges give it an updated appearance. I also like to keep my hair neatly pulled back into a ponytail and using this gold ponytail holder from Dries Van Noten is a classic and chic way to accomplish that. When going in for a job interview or your first day at a new position, it's best to minimize the distraction of 3-inch chandelier earrings or stacks of bangles so I've kept the accessories simple. The pinky ring is supposed to bring you luck, which we could all use in times of transition, and the matte white nail polish is perfect because it's a bit more subtle than its glossy counterpart (always have a fresh manicure for an interview!). The only thing missing is a cute laptop carrier (this one from Rebecca Minkoff, perhaps?) and you're ready to do business!

This weekend I got to go to a fitting for a new dress I'm having custom made by Beane & Co and this is what I wore to meet with the designer. This dress is covered in ruffles which is perfect when you're in a girly mood. I amped up the look with some bright shoes-- my new flats from Tori Burch. The bright green is bold and modern but the shoe's style and the gold Tori Burch logo are very traditional and classic. Keeping it neutral, I carried my Marc by Marc Jacobs shoulder bag and brown D&G sunnies. Tomorrow I'll give you a sneak peak at my new dress I was fitted for. I'm so excited to see the finished product!

Weekend Wishlist: Home of the Brave

This weekend is Memorial Day and I'm wishing for an outfit that will be perfect for grilling out and hanging in the backyard with family and friends. I love this shirt because it is longer in the back and gives the illusion of a dress from behind, and from the front, the shirt is just short enough to show the shorts which are the star of the outfit. These USA inspired shorts are an obvious choice and sunglasses are always a must-have for any outdoor occasion. I stuck with flats for this look because heels don't fare well when standing around in grass or dirt. And the bag, let's talk about the bag. I've been wanting this Alexander Wang bag for SO long. It's the perfect bag for any occasion but especially a Memorial Day BBQ because the biker feel gives it such an All-American look plus it's large enough for you to carry a bikini in case of an improptu swim session. This is such a great outfit; perfect for a day of shopping or lunch with the girls. These stacked Steve Madden clogs are so super comfortable and the hat really sets off the look. The skirt-- though I need to hem it about an inch-- is perfect for those days you don't feel like trying because the color and the material are so elegant, it really takes no effort at all to look pulled-together. I wore this basic NY&co tank because I really wanted the skirt to make the statement here (also why I kept the jewelery simple). Speaking of jewelery, this necklace was a gift from my close friend and former roommate, Leighanne. She gave it to me after a difficult time in my life and the phoenix always reminds me of new beginnings and a great future. Thanks, Leighanne :)

Embellished t-shirts are the easiest thing for me to wear, just thrown on with jeans and sandals. This is one of my new ones from Anat B. The cut-out back covered in this lace look very antique and the sheerness of the shirt in general makes it a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. I accessorized with this hand made chain head piece (which I had to alter myself since my head is so big) and my big leather bag from Junior Drake which has quickly become my go-to carry-all. This necklace I bought on Saturday at the Montana street sale in Santa Monica and I haven't taken it off since. It's a vintage piece that was refurbished and made into a necklace.

New dresses (and a romper)! On Saturday, my friend Sarah and I went shopping on Montana street in Santa Monica and picked up quite a few new goodies. My biggest sweep was at Anat B., one of my new favorite stores, with locations in Beverly Hills, Century City, and Sherman Oaks as well as my local Santa Monica location. The 3 items pictured are all from that store and designed by the brand Ark & Co. I'm so in love with all 3 of these designs, I couldn't even tell you which one is my favorite. The orange romper is so perfect for an LA summer party paired with sky-high pumps or wedges. The white scalloped dress with nude heels is a darling look for a baby shower or Sunday brunch. Lazy Sunday

Yesterday started off cloudy and cool here in LA and Jordan and I spent the morning drinking tea and reading magazines on the roof deck. There is nothing quite like a lazy Sunday with nothing to do but lounge. We eventually left the house to get some lunch but ended up right back on the couch later in the afternoon for a mini movie marathon. My lounge-wear consisted of comfy leggings and socks from Target, a classic black sweater from Banana Republic, and this cozy wrap from Grace and Desire. A few nights ago I was invited to attend a launch party for an upcoming TV show. I was beyond excited when I got the invite but, unfortunately, had only about 2 hours notice before the party started. I ended up recycling my New Years dress for the event, but here is a wishlist of what I would have worn had I had enough time to do some shopping.

It was a red carpet event, although it was relatively casual and called for cocktail attire. I pulled a few things from one of my favorite sites, shopbop.com, to start and then found the earrings, a perfect finishing touch, at Neiman Marcus. The shoes were something I'd seen a while back from Theyskens' Theory-- I've been absolutely in love ever since and have been waiting for the perfect dress to complement them. I wore this outfit out to an early dinner and a movie. Basic black is so easy for every shape and skin tone which made this outfit totally effortless to create. The Betsey Johnson star tights obviously steal the show here. I love the simple nude base which allows for these tights to be more subtle and not over the top. Wearing tights like these is an easy way to create a unique outfit with minimal planning and effort since they really speak for themselves, even paired with the most basic dress or top. The little handbag from Miss Sixty tops off the outfit with a bad ass edge. These boots I got from Urban Outfitters are a staple in my closet-- I've been wearing them throughout every season for the past 6 years and I still constantly find myself creating outfits based around these boots.

London Gray

I created this outfit for a dark, cool, rainy morning with heavy influence from London street fashion. These Ralph Lauren pants are such a classic staple with their timeless cut and slouchy fit. These heels, which I've blogged about here, are probably my favorite shoes in my closet (right now). They are by L.A.M.B. and they are so comfortable I can wear them for 12 hours straight with no problems at all. The platform provides so much stability and the lace-up design allows for the shoe to really hug your foot for maximum support. The white tank has an adorable button up detail in the back and fact that the shirt is so small and fitted makes it perfect under jackets and blazers because there is virtually no bulk. I love the studded cuffs on the blazer, too, to add a bit of a rock-n-roll vibe to your classic black business piece. Also, this was my first time wearing my new light pink Hermes enamel bracelet! I have been wanting one for so long and finally I have my very own-- I couldn't be happier! I will definitely post more about it very soon.

Fresh Tomatoes

Last week, I went to the Aventura Mall with my mother and we found ourselves in a Braccialini store. I was instantly taken aback at all of their beautifully crafted handbags, especially the special edition line that they come out with each season. From what the sales lady was telling me, this store in the Aventura Mall is only the second Braccialini store in the United States (the first is in NY), though they have been designing for over 50 years. Their Temi line (which are the special edition bags) has been creating these works of art since 2002 and each year come out with a handful of bags designed and shaped after objects. Some examples they were currently selling included bags shaped as a princess castle, a camel, a polar bear, and-- my absolute favorite in the image above-- a tomato! I've spoken here about my sister briefly but one thing I never mentioned was her ~~love of~~ obsession with tomatoes. My sister would eat on average 3-4 whole, large tomatoes per day, biting right into them like apples. My mother frequently had to hide tomatoes in various places through out the house because if they were kept in the pantry or any other easily accessible location, they would be gone in literally seconds. When eating a salad or sandwich, the first thing she'd do was pick out the tomatoes and eat them before she decided whether or not she was going to finish the meal. That was Gaby and that's why I'm so completely in love with this handbag. Since the moment I saw it, I haven't been able to stop fantasizing about owning it. I want this bag. I NEED this bag.

Today is my last full day in South Florida so it's only appropriate I show you my beach attire. My mom and I went for a long walk down the beach yesterday in the early morning. It was a bit cloudy and windy but the water was still warm and I can never resist a swim. I wore this brown bikini from Juicy. The skirt bottoms are so darling and the modest cut is great for cloudy days like these when you aren't really concerned with tan lines. The ribbed material makes the bathing suit super stretchy and flattering on any shape. I love the detail of how the top ties in the back with the double string. It just give a slight upgrade to the same style triangle top we've been seeing for decades. As a cover up, I wore this hand-knit dress made by an aunt of mine in Brazil. It's very basic and earthy with just the little bead on the straps for flair. As much as I love shoes, for this occasion I went barefoot. Feeling the sand between your toes is a beautiful thing!

Off to the Races

Yesterday, I went with my parents to Gulfstream Park which is centered around a beautiful horse race track here in Florida. Unfortunately, there wasn't a race going on (or you better believe I'd have been decked out in the appropriate dress and bonnet) but it was still an enjoyable afternoon outing and my dad taught me quite a bit about the history of gambling becoming legal in Florida. I came straight from the beach so i just had my hair thrown up in a sea salt infused knot. I dressed in my favorite jeans and my brand new top from Bar III. Bar III is a new private label launched by Macy's in which the styling was highly influenced and inspired by fellow fashion bloggers from fashiontoast, Sea of Shoes, Feels like White Lightning, and Street Etiquette. I accessorized with my vintage sunglasses, some bangles, and my boyfriend's heavy gold chain. I love the statement this necklace makes, especially in Miami!

This weekend my parents are in the process of downsizing from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom beach condo. The new place has an amazing beachfront view facing the Atlantic Ocean and I can't wait to help them get all settled in so I can relax on the sand. Lazy Lemonade

I've been taking it easy the past 2 days recovering after my dental surgery. To be totally honest, I'm one of the lucky ones-- no pain, no swelling, virtually no discomfort at all. But, of course, I'm still trying to milk it so I laid in the hammock in my aunt's backyard all afternoon wearing this dress by Lili & Q while my little cousin, Kevin, served me lemonade. The dress is relaxing and breezy; it's exactly what I'd want to wear on a tropical island vacation. I accessorized with the Ted Baker bangle I got for my birthday (featured here) and my new Michael Kors watch (here) along with my vintage Bugatti sunnies and the red ring I bought recently from Lucky Brand. The gladiator sandals are from Kitson which I bought in summer '08. Does anyone know the designer? I've worn them so much, the writing is completely worn off the sole and I'm drawing a blank on which label made them. Regardless, they are a favorite of mine and, clearly, have held together well considering how often they've been worn.

New Goodies

Since I've been home in Florida, I've had the chance to hit up some of my old favorite shopping spots and pick up a few treats for myself and even something special for my love, Jordan. I'm completely in love with my 2 new tank tops from Bar III. They are both silk and fall beautifully. I love their lightness for summer-- now if only LA could get as warm as Miami I'd be set. I also picked up these shoes that are by Lauren for Ralph Lauren. Usually, when I wear heels, I commit; I'm talking 4.5 inches or higher. But maybe I'm coming to terms with practicality because the low heel on these wedges doesn't bother me at all-- in fact, it's what drew me to them. They are just under 3 inches high and as comfortable as being barefoot (almost).

The watch on the left is my new Michael Kors gold beauty that I treated myself to the day before having my wisdom teeth extracted-- I deserved it, right? I also picked up this Adidas retro-style black athletic watch with gold detail for Jordan. He loves G-Shocks right now and, though they didn't sell G-Shocks at the store I was visiting, I found this one had a similar look and style so I know he'll love it just the same.

My mother took some shots of me here at our home in Florida just before we went to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I wanted to dress comfortably but still cute since I knew I'd be leaving the office looking like a train wreck and barely being able to walk. I threw on one of my favorite t-shirts from Urban Outfitters. It features the Beastie Boys back in the day and the bright aqua hue is very uplifting to me. I added this fun headband which was a gift from my boss, Andi and hid my fearful tears behind these Oakley Frogskin sunglasses. The white linen pants are comfortable and casual and are just breezy enough to wear in the hot, humid weather we have here. You can also see my new Michael Kors gold watch I got the day before as a treat for being a big girl and braving through the surgery.

Mother's Day at the Park

For Mother's Day, I'm home in Florida with my parents and brother and we spent some time at our family's favorite park, having bagels, donuts, and juice and playing with our dog, Mia. We also dedicated the morning to my big sister, Gabriela. Gaby passed away in March 2010 at the age of 25. She was of special needs and had suffered from seizures the past 10 years or so of her life. Gaby is such a special part of our family-- we love and miss her more than I could ever articulate in words. We spent Sunday morning planting and dedicating a magnolia tree in the park for her and for all the disabled children of South Florida.

I wore a gifted Laundry by Shelli Segal dress and my H&M pink flats, accessorized with my newest sunnies by D&G. The linen material made it perfect for this warm Florida morning.

And this is my fabulous and stylish sister, Gaby. She loved dressing up-- so much so, that sometimes she'd layer on more than 5 dresses at once, each one more glittery and elaborate than the one before. Both of us are in red sunglasses in this picture. We loved to listen to music and dance together. She was a wonderful dancer-- always danced like nobody was watching!

Bicoastal Agenda

Last Friday I left Los Angeles and came home to sunny south Florida for a week to spend with my family. It's important to chose your traveling outfit carefully-- and I always bring a change of clothes or 2 in my carry-on just in case. This time I chose a very basic black t-shirt dress from American Apparel. I accessorized with this bright scarf which is very Florida-appropriate. I always like to travel with a scarf or shawl because they make great blankets when the airline inevitably runs out of the ones they give away. I also always wear socks when I travel. Always. I still get unhappy when I have to take my shoes off to go through security because the thought of walking on those airport floors barefoot makes me cringe. Wearing socks helps comfort me a little. Any hats I bring on trips usually have to travel on my head since I don't normally have space in my suitcase for a bulky hatbox-- as you might imagine, I'm not a very light traveler (I brought 14 pairs of shoes on this 6-day trip, no joke).

I'll be leaving momentarily to get my wisdom teeth pulled-- expect some updates later this week when the drugs wear off a bit. Wish me luck!

Rooftop Sundress

My roommates and I had a small BBQ on Sunday afternoon to get rid of some veggies that we needed to use up. We grilled a bunch of produce and some tuna just at sunset and then turned our charcoal grill into a bonfire after it got dark. The three of us opted for flowy sundresses; we played some music and twirled around all night! Here is a peak at what we cooked:

The grilled cinnamon-sugar bananas were such a hit-- we'll definitely be making them again at the next grill-out. But back to the clothes... here is what we wore:

My rainbow striped dress is from Urban Outfitters which I bought about 5 years ago (at least!). It's been a favorite of mine for a long time. I love the silhouette and it fits me perfectly. The back is so cute with the criss-crossed straps and button detail and the ruffle at the bottom of the skirt really adds some flounce and fun. I wore my funky handmade wedges from Brazil and a necklace designed by Michal Negrin which was a gift to me from my best friend's mother, Sandy. I wore my Ray-Ban aviators until the sun went down. It was a perfect Sunday funday. I couldn't have asked for a better evening with my girls!

Denim on Denim

This denim shirt was on sale at Lucky Brand and I couldn't pass it up. The shape and cut are a modern and feminine take on the classic menswear-inspired denim button-downs that girls have been wearing the past couple of seasons. The slit at the collar and the little tie at the side of the waist are the cute details that make this shirt unique. The trick to wearing denim on denim is to wear contrasting colors so, naturally, I paired the shirt with dark skinny jeans and dark brown Elizabeth and James boots. I also carried my Salvatore Ferragamo handbag for some color.

This outfit was put together for an early morning coffee run. I didn't feel like wearing jeans or a dress-- I wanted to be as comfortable as possible but still look put-together. I stuck with "jeggings." As much as I hate to admit it, I've caved to the evil trend. But there is a way to make the jegging work for you. Here I wear them with a long-sleeved shirt with a low neckline and I complete the look with this wonderful kimono I bought thrifted from Wasteland. I love how easy and wearable kimonos are, especially for the early morning when you don't quite feel like getting out of your pajamas. For comfort, my Jeffery Campbell wedges are a top choice. The high platform makes them so easy to walk in and a cute, strappy wedge heel is always appropriate for the summer.

Hot Sunday in Los Angeles and everyone was as the beach! Sundresses are a great go-to for easy bathing suit cover-ups and sarongs are fun if you're feeling tropical but here is an alternative way to cover up. I wore coral orange linen fold-over pants and a fun little t-shirt with a random print:

The shady straw hat has become a staple now that I'm a California girl and the sunglasses help shade me as well. I rounded everything out with this handbag I bought on the street in Brazil. It's all handmade and surprisingly durable!

This week I won't be be creating a weekend wishlist. I just had my birthday and couldn't possibly come up with 5 things I'm currently wishing for. I received so many wonderful gifts including my new favorite shoes (featured here) and my very own bright red KitchenAid mixer from my chef friends! I cannot wait to post about it and show you all how beautiful it is.

Today's outfit was what I wore 2 evenings ago for my birthday dinner with my love, Jordan. We went to The Lobster at the Santa Monica Pier and enjoyed a lovely meal and some champagne! I wore my go-to H&M dark skinny jeans with a white tee and a faux fur vest I bought not too long ago at Neiman Marcus. The sunglasses were also a favorite birthday gift I received. They are Dolce & Gabbana (one of my favorite brands for sunglasses) and I love the retro-style white frames. They are very Marylin Monroe meets Jackie O. and I can't wait to rock them all summer long.

Another birthday gift I'm wearing are these Ted Baker bangles. They are as great individually as they are together-- the turquoise is very modern while the tortoise shell is always a classic shade.

I got this distressed tee from my mother for my birthday. It is from UNIF and it says Jesus Saves, I Spend. I suppose I was going for the homeless look because I paired the shirt with my distressed jeans by Allen Schwartz. To brighten up the gray tones, I added my bright pink flats I found in the H&M discount box for $10.00 and a dark red, matte lipstick (Viva Glam by MAC-- one of my favorites). I love the subtly pointed toe of the shoe. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of pointy toe shoes but in this case, it totally works for me!

This Free People maxi-dress was featured recently here on my Weekend Wishlist and now I have one of my very own! I found it at Nordstrom for 50% off and knew I couldn't leave without it. Now that summer is approaching, I've been searching for a few new long dresses to incorporate into my wardrobe. The sheer material makes this dress light and airy and the ability to change up the slip underneath gives it so much versatility. This time, I chose a nude slip but black or any bright color would look fabulous as well. The boots are an old favorite of mine-- they're by ASH and I bought them at Urban Outfitters many years ago.

I got this draped necklace (rope scarf? whatever you'd call it) at LF and have been waiting for the perfect outfit to wear it with. The feather detail makes it a perfect compliment for this hippie ensemble.

I was so excited about my Easter outfit, I could hardly wait to post it. Everything about this Zara dress was perfect for the occasion; the fit was perfect, the color was so appropriate, and the shape even reminded me a bit of an Easter egg (which turned out to look a lot more flattering than it sounds). There was so much color blocking going on in this outfit, you can't mistake that it's spring.

Most importantly, though, were the shoes (as usual). These were the most amazing gift from my boy and he couldn't have done a better job! They're the Sam Edelman Lorissa Spike Pumps in nude. Let us take a moment right now...

These were the perfect balance to the lovely, bright dress and delicately decorated bonnet giving the entire outfit a spiky/sweet feel. Hope you all had a wonderful and stylish Easter!

Everyone knows the simplest pieces to put together an outfit is a t-shirt and jeans. This is my modern variation-- a soft, baggy t-shirt and pants-- in all black to make it even simpler. But it's too difficult for me to stick to just the basics with my outfits so I added flair with the cutest little chiffon bow headband.

I wish I knew who made this t-shirt. It was a sample a couple of years ago (2008?) and it was given to me when I worked my first wardrobe gig for an MTV show. It's so soft, I wear it to bed sometimes. But it's clean and basic enough to incorporate into an outfit
